Ross Morgan is a multi-award-winning Australian author, illustrator, and fine artist based in Adelaide, South Australia.

​

He specialises in traditional children’s book illustration, cover art, and narrative-based visual storytelling, working primarily in drawing, painting, and mixed media. His work combines strong draftsmanship with atmospheric world-building, and is particularly suited to picture books, educational publishing, and projects that require emotionally resonant, character-driven imagery.

​

Ross is currently creating illustrations for picture books, educational magazines, private commissions, and Australian commercial publishers, while also developing a number of his own author/illustrator projects.

​

His illustration style is grounded in traditional fine art practice and often sits within the space of magical realism — blending believable characters and naturalistic detail with imaginative, surreal, or dreamlike settings. With an early background in design and architecture, Ross brings a thoughtful sense of composition, structure, and environment to his storytelling.

​

Ross has illustrated books and completed commissioned projects for clients including Walker Books Australia, Hachette Australia, Raising Literacy Australia, Ford Street Publishing, The School Magazine (NSW Department of Education), and Two Tone Pictures. His work has also extended into film, including the creation of the final end-credit character portrait sequence for the Australian feature film The Legend of Ben Hall.

Alongside his illustration practice, Ross maintains an active fine art career as a portrait painter and surrealist. His personal works are often developed as conceptual series, reflecting his ongoing interest in narrative, symbolism, and image-making.
